Today’s post, “Work It Chic”, is part of a style project I did for Internships.com. The assignment was to give tips on how to dress for work on a budget, so PENNY CHIC took on the challenge to style with Walmart clothes! I am happy to say that all three of these looks average at about $50 each…
A lot of my friends (the lucky ones anyway) have recently entered the work force, where jeans and tees no longer suffice. My sister, for example, just started working at a law firm, which required her to buy a whole new wardrobe complete with work appropriate attire. My friend Hilary (modeling below) just got a job at an agency for stylists…talk about dressing under pressure! It can get expensive to say the least, so take a lesson (or three) from PENNY CHIC and read below…
Nothing says fashionista like leopard…Animal prints like this one can be work appropriate as long as it’s on a somewhat conservative piece of clothing (like a cardigan) and you work in a more creative
industry (like fashion or publishing). The studded black belt, trendy yet understated, cinches the waist and ties the whole outfit together.
Maybe she’s the editor of a magazine or an associate at a design firm. Either way, Ms. Fashionista will be sure to have colleagues admiring her sense of style!
The Assistant…Always on the go and willing to go that extra mile! These slacks help get the job done. They’re tailored to perfection and have a little stretch, making it comfortable to run around and be active in the office. Being punctual is crucial so a classic watch like this one is an asset for any professional girl on the go. The turquoise beaded necklace is an accent piece with just enough color to show personality without being too loud.
This ensemble is fit for the business exec or attorney who wants that million dollar look. Luckily, we only spent $50. You may not be at executive status yet, but why not dress the part?
The draping of the dress creates an elongating effect. The purse is both functional and stylish, with a full zipper on top and a small pouch for keys and loose change. And there’s nothing more classy than a long strand of pearls around a woman’s neck. At least CHANEL thought so, and we tend to agree!
