BUBBLEGUM CHIC

Who knew bubblegum could be an accessory (except perhaps Violet from Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory)? It certainly is the most affordable accessory!

Now I know you may be looking at my feet and questioning my judgement here. Socks with heels!? Yes, socks with heels. The look was originally invented by the “Sock hoppers” from the 1950s and made a comeback most recently in Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2012 Collection. I find the whole “geek-chic” (nerdy socks with sophisticated heels) combination to be totally adorable and I wanted to test it out on myself to see if I could look as cool as Rihanna did when she sported the trend. In the process, I’ve discovered that there are a couple key points to pulling off this trend:

1. Don’t wear THICK socks! (aka this isn’t Flashdance nor is it a crosstraining class).
2. Try socks with patterns (like this one) or bright colors to create a little more pizzazz to the outfit.
3. Keep your heels simple. Stick to solid color or black round toe pumps or pointy heels

  3. This one definitely has an age limit! But you do it way cuter than Rihanna. I’m with Lil — please style a brunch/communion/wedding guest/ outfit for spring? WCAFF (Women of a Certain Age Fighting the Frumpies).

  4. Looks cute on you, but not on anyone over 25 really. Don’t take this personally (because it’s not in reference to you) but it reminds me of an 80′s streetwalker look. Another member of the WCAFF club (48 yrs old) :)
