TAMING OF THE TREND: HIGH/LOW DRESSES
Speaking of guest bloggers (see yesterday’s post), I am Kmart Fashion’s official guest blogger for the month of May! It’s very exciting to see a big box retailer embrace the power of social media and put their faith in a blogger like myself. I’m honored to be creating online content directly for consumers and hopefully inspiring Kmart shoppers to have fun styling outfits with the clothing that’s at their fingertips at Kmart. If you haven’t visited the Kmart Fashion site yet, you should! They have a variety of content ranging from interviews with real women to celebrity looks for less.
My first post for Kmart is called “Taming of the Trend” (which I’m trying to make into a series on Penny Chic too!). The idea is to take on extreme trends and bring them back to life with affordable and practical items. The high-low trend (shown above) has been all the rage for Spring and Summer. A much as I adore the runway look above, most of us wouldn’t wear a dress with such a severe length difference, and even if we did, there would be no need to splurge on such an item since it will be out of style by next year!
What do you think of the High-Low trend this season? Will you be sporting the look?
Every week I’ll be posting new original content on the Kmart Fashion site so be sure to check back and see what’s cookin online!
Shop it Online:
1. Straw Hat $6.99
2. Sofia by Sofia Vergara Bangle Set $16.99
3. Route 66 High-Low Maxi Dress $20.99
4. Attention “Fiona” Dress Shoe $19.99

I went on the Kmart site after looking at your blog yesterday, and I couldn’t believe how their fashion has come around! Thank you for reintroducing me to fashion at Walmart and Kmart. I am not able to find the trends at a great price.
I really love this look you recreated. It works for the majority of the consumers out there or as the Occupy protesters refer to themselves, 99%, who want to look fashionable and get inspired by the latest trends without dropping an insane amount of money on clothes and accessories. Your outfit looks beautifully put together and very high end.
PS: The short in front and long in the back style dress reminds me of my prom dress from ’92. I actually rocked that looked w/metallic silver and good taffeta-LOL!
correction-silver and gold taffeta not good.
Hey Shauna,
I’m wondering, since you’ve been getting noticed by the big box stores you highlight on the blog (i.e. official fashion blogger for KMart for the month) are you still operating independently? I’ll still love you just the same but was just curious. Are you shopping for the outfits for free now since basically you’re giving them free advertising?
Verrry cute dress, I love the high/low look. Once style changes cut the hem to even it and, bam! a whole new dress (not a dated look). Twice the mileage for your dollar!
Hi Shauna! I just discovered your Penny Chic style blog, and I just wanted to say THANK YOU! You are a breathe of fresh air amongst all of the other style blogs I’ve been reading lately. You even make me want to run out to my nearest Walmart (there aren’t any Kmarts in Houston, TX or I would run there too!) to look for cute and stylish clothes. Thanks for letting me and everyone else know that you don’t have to be rich to be chic!
@Tarin–I’m always happy to hear that I helped a sister out with finding new stores to shop at. The great thing is you can find a Walmart or Kmart almost everywhere so there’s no one who doesn’t have access!
@@Jen from MI–I would love to see your prom dress lol. I guess this style certainly came back in style. Glad to hear that you like the look!
@Jessica–good question! Yes, i’m still operating independently. I’m Kmart’s guest blogger basically as a freelance writer. The blog helped me get noticed by then but i’m simply freelance writing for them like i do for other websites. Thanks for your support!
@Liana–Great idea! You’ll like tomorrow’s post…
@Lori–You have no idea how good it feels to hear your words. There’s no better compliment to hear my message is getting through to people. Thank you so much for being a reader!
