PENNY READER GUEST POST!
A couple months ago, Penny reader Maggie and her coworkers took on the challenge to dress up using clothes from their local Walmart in Indiana. Don’t they look cute?!
Here’s what Maggie had to say:
I’m so honored to contribute to Penny Chic! As a new professional in my mid-20s, I love keeping up with new fashions, but it doesn’t always fit into my entry-level budget. Blogs like Penny Chic definitely give hope and inspiration to others like myself, and those who don’t want to spend a whole paycheck on one designer item. I told some ladies in my office about this blog, and they wanted in too! We work for AffordableStyle.com, so we are all about doing things to save money in the name of fashion.
Sarah, on the left, turned nightwear into chic day wear with her George chemise dress and child’s accessories. Danielle brought the laid-back office vibe with her own skinny jeans and a teal tank under a sexy sheer black racer-back. Maggie kept it flirty with a beige sun dress.
I think it’s always refreshing to practice what you preach. During the day, we sell affordable fashion accessories, and I love supporting budget fashion while off the clock as well!
If anyone is up for the challenge, send me photos! I’d love to share them on the blog!!!

I love their outfits! your blog makes me want to run out to walmart! you’d never know the clothes are from walmart. i’m bad at putting outfits together, i’m not creative at all!!!! i hate the one near me, (the parking lot is badly designed and hard to get around and you always end up in line waaaaay too long )
I think this is really cool that they did this! It’s especially cool that they were inspired by your blog! You’re really starting to make an impact in the fashion world.
I buy quite a bit from Wal-Mart but I’ve never done an entire outfit from it. (close though) I’ll be sure to keep you in mind if it ever happens for me! hehe
Awwwwhhh! I love that you put up reader pics. What a great idea! They all look so sweet and pretty! Very nice daily edition!

I never, ever find this stuff at the Walmart I go to.Same goes for Target, when they promote “Guest” designers.( I have zero hope of finding any of their Missoni stuff……..)
I’m in central NJ.Where do you find it??
(PS There are no Walmart Supercenters in NJ, is that the problem??)
Erin–Trust me girl, I go through the same hardship that you do with finding good stuff at these discount stores! It involves a lot of patience. But at the end of the day you’ll be spending a lot less than you would anywhere else! Stay hopeful
In answer to the “where do you live question, I live in Los Angeles. Everyone always comments on how they can’t find good stuff at their Walmart. If I showed you the Walmart I usually go to you would probably say the same thing. The idea is you have to give the inventory the benefit of the doubt and try to create outfits by mixing and matching different things. I also do a lot of online shopping on walmart.com!
