I present to you our newest muse, a converted Wally customer and my cousin, Michelle. When I first told her about the concept behind PENNY CHIC she gasped and said, “WHY Wal-Mart!!??”. But since the blog launched, Michelle has apparently purchased a whole new wardrobe online at Wal-Mart. We went to a Wal-Mart together to pull the clothes for the shoot and I was shocked to see how well she knew the inventory considering a couple months before she had never purchased an item of clothing from there! The biggest compliment is when I hear Penny readers tell me they were inspired to buy clothes from Wal-Mart after seeing my outfits on the blog. Trust me, it would have been a lot easier to style “chic” outfits if I was using designer clothing or even H&M. Wal-Mart still has a long way to go before their apparel is considered fashionable, but that’s why I love what I do….it’s a challenge! #emomomentoftheday
Let’s talk fashion. Military cargo jackets are very in right now if you haven’t noticed. Here’s one from Neimen Marcus for $248 by JOIE. Call me crazy, but for $25, Norma Kamali does a pretty damn good job with her cargo jacket. I love the elastic waist that cinches you without having a drawstring or belt (you can see that effect better with the pic on Wal-Mart’s website). These jeans are part of the Evolution collection by Just My Size, one of Wal-Mart’s plus-size brands. Evolution is great because it’s designed for curvy fashionistas, which prior to now, was a demographic overlooked by a lot of plus-size brands. The printed tunic comes in a couple different colors….check it out online.
