PENNY VS. PRICEY: TRENDY BACKPACKS

When Harper’s Bazaar says backpacks are where it’s at for Spring 2014, it’s suddenly becomes real. I’ve seen my share of “it” girls, editors, and model-like fashion bloggers sporting them, but didn’t anticipate the backpack to go mainstream so quickly. I’m not opposed to it at all…in fact, one of my first posts back in 2010 featured a backpack from Walmart that I fell in love with.

Here are four designer-inspired backpacks that I found for $40 or less. As you’ll see, the first one was inspired by The Row’s $34,000 crocodile backpack, which actually just makes me kind of sick. $34k for a backpack!? Please share thoughts in comments below.

FAUX CROC BACKPACK (TOPSHOP) $40

VS.

REAL CROCODILE BACKPACK (THE ROW) $34,000

FAUX LEATHER CHAIN BACKPACK (JUSTFAB.COM) $40

VS.

FAUX SUEDE CHAIN BACKPACK (STELLA MCCARTNEY) $1,300

TAN FAUX LEATHER BACKPACK (FOREVER21) $29.95

VS.

REAL LEATHER TAN BACKPACK (COACH) $698

GREY NYLON BACKPACK (TARGET) $29.95

VS.

GREY LEATHER BACKPACK (LANVIN) $1,495

  1. Love it!! Anyone who buys that croc bag is cray- cray! There are better uses for that money.

  2. $34K for a backpack is beyond ridiculous. A backpack should not cost the same as a brand new SUV!

I really like the Coach one…wish I didn’t but I love Coach products. They are expensive but I wait for their stuff to go on sale and use coupons to bring the cost down.
