Here’s my last and final attempt at recreating a runway trend for Glamour.com this week at Fashion Week! What’s the trend? Plaids paired with neons. I’m a BIG fan of this trend because it means we get to incorporate our spring colorblocking pieces into our fall wardrobe! The problem was I only had 24 hours to find the look before I had to file my story to Glamour! Time may not have been on my hands, but with my Pantech Discover smartphone (photographed with me above) in my hands, I was already ahead of the game! The GPS app navigated me on foot to the closest TJ Maxx store and helped me locate the most affordable blow out bar in the city. It’s called The Dry Bar in case you’re ever in need and it’s amazing! By the grace of the fashion week gods and a little help from my phone, I was able to achieve the look for less than $100! Pretty good, no? Scroll down to watch my behind the scenes video and learn how I did it…
Take a look at my Glamour fashion cam (shot with my Pantech Discover) that shows you what went down behind the scenes!
My strategy: for this particular look, I shopped in three very different departments at TJ Maxx. 1. Women’s Contemporary, 2. Men’s, and 3. Outdoor apparel. When it came to the plaid, I tried to stick to a print that had neutral colors so that the neon accents could really stand out. The Men’s department was perfect! But in order to flatter my body, I knew I needed to cinch the waist to create a shape. The green long sleeve shirt is actually an outdoor zip-up sweatshirt I found in the athletic section. Not only does it highlight the plaid beautifully, but it really kept me warm out there in the cold. Moral of the story: don’t rule out bright thermal clothing as a chic alternative to the cold! The $20 bright blue skinny jeans work with the color palette established by the shirt and sweater. But more importantly, since the double shirt combo makes the top half of the outfit bulkier, skinny jeans were crucial for keeping the outfit balanced and proportional.
It’s hard to believe that the smartphone I’ve been trotting around with me all week is STILL cheaper than the $95 outfit I’m wearing in this outfit (*if you sign up with a 2 year contract). I think of the Pantech Discover as the Penny Chic of phones. It looks just as fabulous and WERKS just as good (if not better), but you’re the smart one who saves $150 when you buy the phone. I don’t know about you but I could do A LOT with a $150. I could’ve kept this outfit for free and taken myself out on for a 5 course meal with that money! Well that just sounds a little depressing, but you get the point! Through my work with Penny Chic, I’ve gotten to know a lot of brands that feel the same way I do about spending money responsibly while still looking chic. Pantech is definitely one company that sees eye to eye with me on that and I’m thrilled to see a phone option out there that’s both affordable and on the cutting edge of technology and fashion.
