I think Penny Chic team member, Erin, looks super chic in this jumpsuit for $9.95 from H&M. I’ve always been on the fence about jumpsuits, but I love this one because it’s black (READ: flattering!) and it has a drawstring belt which you can cinch to highlight the waist even more. We played with accessories with this one and realized sticking to one color (bright blue) was the way to go in order to keep the look summer-friendly. The shoes are wedges so they give a little height but they also blend in because of the color.

Are you a fan of jumpsuits? One thing is very clear…they’re comfortable! And if you find the right one (like this one), they can be sleek and flattering too!

These amazing photos were taken by Josh Madson, an extremely talented photographer who I had the pleasure of working with a couple months ago. I’ve been dying to show you guys these for a while and now seemed like the right time considering my Little Black Dress Collection is on clearance on Walmart.com! Prices vary from $15-$18 depending on the style (some are already sold out). If you haven’t purchased one yet, now’s the time! The reviews have been stellar and I couldn’t be prouder of the line. These photos do an amazing job of showing how high-end the dresses can look. Josh went for a very baroque, luxe motif with his photography, which give the dresses a certain elegance.  He’s a genius at what he does!! For more updates on his work, follow his twitter and instagram. Hair was done by another genius, Octavio Molino, who also showed us how to do the perfect blowout on a budget.

By the way, everything I’m wearing in these photos is all budget-friendly, from the shoes (TJMaxx) to the accessories (Forever21). It’s the perfect example of how little price has to do with how chic something can look.

It’s Trend Tracker Tuesday and this week’s post is all about those cutout dresses we’ve been spotting everywhere! Some have slits at the waist and some are exposed in the midriff area (like the Charlotte Russe dress I’m wearing). What do you think of this hot trend? Too much? I’m personally loving it because my waist and upper abdomen are the most slender parts of my body so I appreciate a little show and tell in that area. For this particular look, I went for a simpler, clean motif. Can we discuss how amazing my lucite necklace is?!

Here are some tricks I’ve discovered to pulling off the cutout dress trend:

1. Choose a silhouette that’s feminine in shape to offset the provocativeness of the cutout area.

2. Stick to solids or very basic prints (like the striped one above). You don’t want to overcomplicate with both a cutout AND a busy print.

3. Make the cutout the main attraction. While my necklace makes a statement, it’s clear and doesn’t distract too much from the focus.

I’ve had a style crush on Sheryl ever since I discovered her amazing personal style blog Walk in Wonderland about a year ago. Not only does she have killer style and insane beauty, but this girl also happens to be the sweetest person you’ll ever meet! When we worked on this shoot together, I decided that she should be a pageant girl. Couldn’t you see her as Miss Universe!? She’d have my vote…. It’s always so refreshing to meet a gorgeous gal who’s as sweet as pie! We all know how hard that is to find… I’m keeping this one close by

The outfit itself is a great work ensemble for the summer. The skirt is long enough to be work appropriate and the lace material and off white color are great summery details. The floral shirt is just faded enough to match the skirt without being too loud. If you wanted to make the look more corporate, you could pair the skirt with a black top tucked in or even a chambray shirt, depending on how formal your office is.

You guys know all about my mom, Shideh, and her role as the Penny Chic photographer (and my “momager”). Until this week, Dale Miller was pretty much a mystery! But believe it or not, this whole blog started out of a conversation I had with my father almost 5 years ago. That’s not surprising to anyone who knows him though. Lots of genius ideas and career changes have sprung out of long conversations with this guy. He’s brilliant, imaginative, thoughtful, and wise. This combination has made him successful both in his own career path and also as a mentor to others. My dad has always pushed me to THINK BIG and believe in myself. He’s helped me make this dream come true and for that I will forever be grateful.

Dad, I love you so much and feel incredibly blessed to have you as my father and role model. I know you’ll find this post because you check up on me here everyday!
